"How do extreme injury recovery costs (200x slow-healing) shape long-term cognitive, genetic, and social evolution under scarcity?"

KEY FINDINGS
  • 🧠 Cognitive Paradox: Colony Delta displayed the highest initial prediction accuracy (95.0%), yet underwent earliest extinction (Year 45) due to severe topographical exposure at (552, 304).
  • 🧬 Single-Lineage Monopoly: A single founder lineage (#5) achieved 100% population dominance by Year 600, despite active mutation remaining enabled throughout the 905-year run.
  • 💧 Hydration Paradox: Beta Colony accumulated a 55.5-million-unit water stockpile, yet 83.2% of dehydration deaths occurred while agents were actively carrying water in inventory.
  • 🔄 Altruism Reversal: Resource-sharing allele frequency peaked at 0.675 (+19%) at Year 100, but later underwent a -57% reversal as population hit carrying capacity.
  • ⛺ Infrastructure Ceiling: 98.9% of agents remained at Level 1 (Tent) shelter for 905 years without advancing to stone structures, suppressed by injury recovery energy costs.

Research Abstract

In this 326,075-tick (~905 simulated years) continuous simulation experiment, we investigated the long-term evolutionary, cognitive, and social dynamics of synthetic agent populations subjected to a severe physiological stressor: a 200× reduction in bodily injury healing rate (healing_speed_multiplier = 200.0) under high resource scarcity (scarcity = 3.0). Across 38 generations and 3,042 cumulative births, the population exhibited an evolutionary trajectory characterized by extreme behavioral conservatism, culminating in a 100% single-lineage monopoly by Year 600.
